Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center doctors stupid logic

My! I was astounded by the response of the spokespersons of VSMMC!

I don’t know if they were only trying to protect their employees or they were truly poised to ignore the issue of patient’s rights violation if only to save their ruthless health workers.

Upon meeting with the media, officials of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center came up with the following announcement.

One, they will file administrative charges against the doctors and the nurses who made a mockery out of a sedated patient’s rectal surgery, which the hospital labeled as unprofessional. Second, they are asking the help of the National Bureau of Investigation(NBI) to apprehend the student nurse who allegedly uploaded the video footage in youtube. Third, they are not going to dismiss the said health practitioners because they lack the needed staff.

Whoever advised them of making such pronouncements must be nuts himself to even suggest that such a case can be taken lightly and sanctions be easily ignored.

Take the number one statement, who were they fooling? Us? The act of mocking and jeering a patient under unconventional circumstance, nothwithstanding, was not just unprofessional but also unethical, and should bear a legal liability and corresponding legal sanction.

Violating patient’s rights to privacy and breach of confidentiality, worst committing travesty on a sedated patient placed under their care, are more than just condescending acts but are actually acts of legal violation.

Do we have to wait for cases of hospital deaths to call it unethical and criminal? How dare them say that it was purely professionalism that was at issue. I dare them submit themselves in the same predicament. How would they feel if ABS-CBN (prime tv station) will pick up their story of humiliation and parody.

Second, they are trying to turn the table on the “nursing student” who uploaded the footage in youtube. I don’t condone the student’s “initiative”. But God! Whatever happened to Respondiat Superior? However and in whatever method and capacity this footage have reached the gawking public, the origin of fault comes from the insensitive health practitioners who allowed the operation to be viewed by non-attending practitioners , and to be videotaped in the first place. Ano ba yan? In reference to the “Captain of the ship” principle, and however this will turn-out, the hospital will still be answerable to this ruthless act of ripping off human dignity.

Third, they are going to retain the health workers because nobody will replace them. Who was that doctor trying to fool? Us? Every year we produce thousands of nurses in this country (most become unemployed for months thereafter) who are more than willing and more than enough in numbers to replace these deadly OR microbes in VSMMC.

I am beginning to believe that these administrators certainly do not care about the rest of humanity. These doctors and nurses do not deserve to be entrusted with human lives. They deserve the full powers of the law for the bastardy acts they committed.

Unless, the whole VSMMC is actually of the same ruthless mindset. Cebuanos and other potential patients are truly at risk. The taxpayers money should not be spent on these heartless “life-savers”.
